Chapter 317 - The First among the Disciples of the Heavenly Palace

Chapter 317: The First among the Disciples of the Heavenly Palace

What Lu Xuan said stunned everyone present right away. No one had anticipated something like that coming out of his mouth.

What he said was totally opposite to what was commonly preached all over the world at the moment. After all, it was said that everyone received education equally in the present era, although some people were deemed to be more equal than others.

However, what he said called out to what was truly behind all that fa?ade right there and then—there was never such a thing called absolute fairness.

All those young people were stunned right there and then. They realized from how Lu Xuan descended from the sky that the man in front of their eyes was none other than the man in the flesh.

Lu Xuan looked at those young people below him and shook his head. Compared to those back in his past life who rose to prominence among countless out there through their very own powers, those people right before his eyes, at the moment, were very sheltered people.

They had never seen how harsh the world out there truly was, and as such, they had no idea just how brutal the world could truly be.

Those from his past life at later eras would have never asked something like that, as they knew all too well that even geniuses were subject to all manner of prejudice and injustice.

It was absolutely ridiculous to expect absolute fairness.

Those below were, after all, cream of the crop selected from all over the country in the first place, which technically made them elites among elites.

As such, it was only natural for them to feel prideful about themselves, not thinking for even a second that they would pale in comparison to others.

However, the tests they had to go through were not the standardized high school tests; there were no marks or points making it clear if one was inferior or superior.

Where they were at the moment, all decisions rested in the hands of the members of the Heavenly Palace, and that was why they felt unfair about how things were conducted.

“So, you think it’s unfair then?” Lu Xuan asked as he looked at the elaborately dressed young man.

“I’m just saying that I don’t see why she could make it as the disciple of the Palace Lord himself.” The young man voiced his displeasure rather bluntly, speaking his mind without reservations despite knowing full well he was talking to Lu Xuan.

Lu Xuan grinned and continued, “This is hardly anything about fairness. You all are still young now, and I bet no one told you all this, but you’d all soon find out that it’s utterly ridiculous for the weak to seek justifications from the strong.”

“It is especially so in the case of beings of my likes. Do you really think there’s a need to explain myself to your satisfaction for whatever decisions I make?”

What Lu Xuan said made that elaborately dressed young man choke. He was simply too used to the fact that he came from a rather privileged background, being the ones with privileges, and no one else before him had more privilege than he did.

That young man had forgotten that times were then different. No one was deemed qualified enough to point fingers at him or even say what he did was wrong, even if that was the decision he made.

Lu Xuan continued with a smile, “Consider this my first lesson to all of you newbies on the path of cultivation. Please do voice any dissatisfaction you have without reservations. Prove it to me with what you’re capable of, and use that as a testament telling me that I’m wrong. Know that words are weapons of the powerless.”

Everyone present felt riled up by what he just said. There was, without a doubt, no way that he would be able to convince them with words alone. Many of them were dissatisfied, but they had nothing to say to rebuke him at all, given that he was just that powerful after all.

But then again, what he said had also instilled yet another idea in their minds—if they were to be able to show their mettle in their training from then on out, completely exceeding what that personal disciple that Lu Xuan handpicked personally was capable of, they would then be able to prove their worth to him.

A middle-aged man who was watching the entire process taking place from outside the base felt rather flustered by that scene unfolding before him.

“Oh gosh, that stupid brat.”

The young man who voiced his doubt of Lu Xuan was that middle-aged man’s son. The father felt as if he was passing out soon after hearing what the son said. How could you just go about doubting your teachers like that?

It was especially so given that the one his son was doubtful of was a proven top-notch fighter at the very pinnacle. It was due solely to Lu Xuan being magnanimous and generous that he did not bother being petty with that young man. If someone else had been in Lu Xuan’s shoes, that young man would have probably been condemned to a life of mediocrity.

That middle-aged man had initially thought that his son was doing quite well, yet from the way things unfolded at the moment, it became clear that his son was still a little too sheltered and that his son’s thoughts were too simple and straightforward.

“There’s no need for you all to feel so vexed by the way. Other than her, anybody who manages to make it to the top ten in today’s tests will be taken as my honorary disciples. Prove your worth even further from there, and you may just become my personal disciple.”

Those young people were feeling very agitated after hearing that. While none of them could make it as his personal disciple right away, but being at the starting line of the honorary disciple of Lu Xuan alone was a feat far above all others.

With Lu Xuan making an appearance personally, no one else had anything more to say despite many still feeling irked deep down. They simply watched as Lu Xuan took Yun Ling’er away from the site.

All of those young people shot Yun Ling’er with rather envious and jealous looks. They just were unable to help it.

Yun Ling’er, at the moment, was still relishing at how Lu Xuan descended from above like a god just moments ago and walking right before her.

“Oh my god, this is so damn cool!” Yun Ling’er flashed a beaming smile and looked rather dazed. “This is so cool. This is so cool. Yun Ling’er, your disciple, at your service, master.”

She took in her new status right away. Lu Xuan looked to be of high birth, possessed an undoubtable power. More importantly, he looked so dashing at the same time, after all.

She was recalling that there had been a television drama about a disciple falling in love with their master, their master falling in love with their disciple, and things got messy from then on out.

One had to admit that delusions of maidens could indeed be devastating.

Lu Xuan was totally oblivious to what was going on in that hare-brained mind of Yun Ling’er. He was doing so because he felt that he owed too much to that kid back in his past life. He was compelled to make amends in that current life of his.

“Lose the formalities. Our lineage is not one fraught with all those boxes, to begin with, and there is hardly anything of that sort that you’d need to adhere to. There would be only one thing that you need to keep in mind—never deceive and betray your predecessors.”

“No problem at all!” Yun Ling’er clapped at her rather puffy chest as she said that.

“So, is there anything fun out there to do? Could you teach me how to fly soon?” Yun Ling’er asked.

Lu Xuan shook his head and said, “This is not just something you could pick up. It is, after all, one of the highest tiers of spells there is. It’s a kind of passive skill that you’d automatically pick up when you’ve reached Airborne Realm. You could say that flight is a type of natural instinct.”

Yun Ling’er was imparted with the basics regarding the cultivation systems of present times, which meant that she definitely knew just how high the Airborne Realm was. It was so high that there was probably only a handful to be found in the world. On the other hand, she just began on her journey on cultivation, and no one knew how long it would have taken her to reach such a level.

She was thoroughly devastated by what she just heard from her master.

Lu Xuan grinned instead, being surprised that that demon of a woman he knew back in his past life actually had such a side to her. The Yun Ling’er she knew would have definitely made mentions of her past off-limits if she were to see the antics of her younger self right now.

“No need to feel so dejected by the way. Your innate talents are such that it wouldn’t even take you a year to reach Airborne Realm. Furthermore, the world would be restored even further soon enough, and cultivation would be even easier for you people from here on out.”
