Chapter 40 - Greeting The Elders

At this moment, Shen Mo pulled the reins on the carriage and stopped right in front of a large red gate.

"Young miss, we have arrived." Shen Mo raised his voice, enough for the lady inside the carriage to hear him.

Inside the ride, Lin Xiaofei has just opened her eyes, hesitating to draw the curtains out of dread. Her hands shook as she reached for the satin cloth blocking her window before she finally pulled it open.

Right in front of her eyes was the gate of the place where she was imprisoned for almost five years. She suffered at the hands of the monster living inside the grandiose residence of the fourth prince of the Zheng empire.

As if she was pulled back by time, Lin Xiaofei shuddered and held her arms around her body protectively. The rims of her eyes were starting to gather tears as she saw a nightmare staring directly into her eyes.

However, it didn\'t stay for too long since she prevented the tears from falling.. Her body started to relax while her eyes were glaring at the red gates like she wanted nothing but to burn it down to the ground.

Among the princes of the Zheng empire, the fourth prince Yu Fangzhu was the most popular with his notable reputation. He was able to stand above others and gather the interests of every higher officials. These officials were already planning inside their heads on how to please the young prince, who has the most possibility to become the emperor.

Although slightly older than the unmarried young ladies in the capital, many mothers were still making a fuss over him; they wanted to offer their daughters to him for marriage.

They didn\'t care whether the fourth prince already had a few concubines in his residence for as long as their families could share the same fate and fortune with the highly reputable and respected prince.

As for Yu Fangzhu, he didn\'t care mind nor refuse the advances of these madams and young ladies since they were vital for his plans to become the next emperor.

Lin Xiaofei pulled the curtains close. She leaned back on her seat before giving a command, "Return to the residence!"

Shen Mo was confused, wearing a puzzled expression on his face as he heard his mistress\' order. They had just stopped in front of the location where his mistress wanted to go and stayed there for a few minutes, but she\'s now ordering him to return to the Lin residence. Just what was she thinking?

Raised as an elite soldier, Shen Mo was frustrated and wanted to return to his fellow soldiers. He desired more to train in the barracks rather than accompany a young lady who might chew his head off if he ever disobey her orders or make a mistake.

Sighing heavily, Shen Mo took the reins, prompting the horses to move, pulling the carriage behind it. Finally, they got out if the road leading to the wide mansion of the Fourth Prince.

When they got back to the Lin mansion, Lin Xiaofei was immediately called by Lin Xiaomeng to his study.

When she entered his study, Lin Xiaomeng was seating relaxedly on the chair at the centre of the room, but he was not alone. On either side of him are chairs which were currently occupied by two males. With just one look, she could tell who they were.

They were Lin Feng and Lin Sang, Lin Xiaomeng\'s sons and her uncles.

Curtsying slightly, Lin Xiaofei softly greeted them.

"Greetings first uncle and second uncle," she timidly moved her body to the right, "Greetings to grandfather."

Lin Xiaomeng beckoned the lady with his hand to sit near him. A male servant immediately procured and put a cushioned chair beside Lin Xiaomeng. Lin Xiaofei did not rush to sit down; she walked with elegant steps towards the chair.

Seeing this, Lin Sang scoffed and thought that she was silly for trying to act elegant when all of them knew how crude her manners were. "Fourth niece doesn\'t have to be so polite. We\'re family and have known each other for so long. I dare not accept your greeting," he said.

Upon hearing this, Lin Xiaomeng frowned, but quickly wiped it from his face as soon as it surfaced.

Lin Sang did not hide his rudeness. He tried to say that Lin Xiaofei appeared too pretentious by acting elegant and respectful without rhyme and reason.

Although, he was right in reminding them that Lin Xiaofei was never the type to greet her elders.

However, his words could mean something else if it was heard by other people. The way he attempted to pick on the fact that Lin Xiaofei was treating them as strangers and not as a family, was something that most noble people wouldn\'t want to see and hear.

"What is second uncle saying? Family or not, one must be aware of their manners whether they\'re inside or outside of their residence." Lin Xiaofei lightly laughed at him and sat on the soft cushion of the chair, "It is this niece\'s fault for not thinking that much further. I want to offer my gratitude to second uncle for giving me a valuable lesson."

She smiled at him as if she was grateful and didn\'t speak any further to continue the topic. She just sat down on her chair and didn\'t utter a noise and completely ignoring the presence of the two male whom she should call her \'uncles\'.
