Chapter 216 - 216 Update

Seeing the fierce yet tender expression on the young man’s face, Song Jian chuckled and took two steps forward.

“I’m warning you, don’t come any closer or you’ll be covered in blood! ” the teenager shouted angrily, retreating two steps.

The alley was dimly lit and had a strong smell of urine. Song jian didn’t want to stay here much longer, so he waved to the boy and asked, “What level are you in the game?”

The teenager was startled and asked, “Are you a God-chosen too?”

“Cut the crap, we re just players. Don’t try to make yourself look good,” said Song Jian. “How did you end up resorting to robbery? You don’t think you’re tarnishing the name ‘God-chosen’?”

The teenager showed an awkward expression and scratched his head. “I’m just a beggar, 1 don’t have any other skills besides stealing.”

“So you’ve upgraded from begging to robbery?” Song Jian waved his hand, “Come on out, it’s too smelly in here.”

The teenager reluctantly walked out, holding his switchblade, but his eyes still showed a hint of vigilance.

“What’s your name? What level are you in the game?” asked Song Jian as he walked ahead with the teenager following behind him.

“I’m Zhang Ergou, level 10 in the game!” the teenager answered quietly.

“Level io? Already built a safe house? Not bad!” Song Jians eyes flashed with surprise. He knew that in the game, fewer than one in ten players had built a safe house.

“Just luck!” Zhang Ergou s eyes showed a hint of pride.

“Can’t you bring items out of the game? Wouldn’t selling a few be enough instead of resorting to robbery?” Song J ian was puzzled.

“I couldn’t find anything valuable to bring out. All the items were useless…” Zhang Ergou was frustrated. He had been playing the game for over a month without finding any valuable items to bring out of the game.

Song Jian smiled wryly, knowing that it really depended on their luck.

“So what are your plans for the future? Continue being a thug and stealing on the streets?” Song Jian asked.

Zhang Ergou’s face darkened, feeling his pride wounded. He snorted, “That’s none of your business, hmph!”

With that, Zhang Ergou immediately jumped onto a nearby wall and landed on the roof. Standing on the roof, he shouted at Song Jian, “Mind your own business, and be careful not to lose your life in the game!”

Song Jian was taken aback, watching Zhang Ergou disappear. He didn’t know what to say.

Zhang Ergou was the first player Song Jian had met in the real world. He originally wanted to develop a good relationship and possibly ally with him, but they had a falling out after just a few words.

“No wonder he’s called Zhang Ergou. He really has a dog face, turning against me just like that, and 1 was even planning to give him ten or twenty thousand…” Song jian muttered under his breath as he walked towards the rental house with his sword.

With two million in his pocket, Song Jian planned to buy a house first, so he’d have a place to store items brought from the game. He didn’t feel safe leaving valuable items in a rental house.

After returning to his room and malting himself a simple lunch, Song Jian took a short rest and then picked up his Eight-sided Sword to practice indoors.

The space in the room was limited, but it didn’t stop Song Jian from practicing the basic moves of his sword technique. Half the day passed quickly, and darkness began to fall.

Song Jian freshened up, changed into loose clothes, drank a glass of milk, and placed his phone on the bedside table before lying down quietly in bed.

Soon, rhe phone on the bedside table lit up automatically, as did the Doomsday City game icon, which turned into a spinning red vortex.

A skeletal arm emerged from the vortex, grabbed Song Jian, and pulled him into the phone.

After a dizzying moment of weightlessness, Song Jian opened his eyes and found that he hadn’t entered the game directly, but had arrived at the stage where mainline missions were calculated.

Every time a player completed a mainline mission and left the game, they would enter this space for calculation. During his last mainline mission, Song Jian received an S-ranking reward: the next time he entered the game, his Vitality Points recovery rate would be increased by 300%. Song Jian roughly understood why his ranking was two levels lower this time; it was most likely because he had abandoned the side mission offered by the dwarf blacksmith from the Doomsday Blacksmith Shop.

This alerted Song Jian about the importance of side missions. If he completed them, his ranking would improve, but if he failed, it would decrease. It was a double-edged sword.

“But why didn’t 1 enter the game directly this time? Why was 1 sent to this calculation space?” Song Jian wondered.

At that moment, rows of golden text appeared in front of Song Jian:

After carefully reading through the information, Song Jian finally realized that the game had its first update. This update had a lot of changes, with the most significant ones being the cancellation of the requirement to complete mainline missions to leave the game;

Additionally, some other updates made Song Jian feel quite surprised.

“The real world and game world’s time flow ratio is 1:24, so one hour in the real world makes one day pass in the game!”

“Each time you enter the game, you can stay for at most one week, which is seven days in the real world. After the time is up, the game shuts down automatically!”

“Added roaming NPC – Pet Merchant. You can buy pets if you meet them! Added Pet Contract Scroll to System Shop. When a monster’s Vitality Points are below 5%, you can use the Pet Contract Scroll for a chance to capture it as a per!”

“Added a special building – Auction House. There are City Auctions and World Auctions! No handling fees and mailing costs for City Auction House items; World Auction House will have high handling fees and mailing costs!” “Increased the number of side missions, lowered their difficulty, and added regional missions. Upon completion, players will receive numerous rewards!” Song Jian carefully read through the densely packed update information and changes. The changes were made to avoid inconsistencies in the flow of time for players entering and leaving the game at the same time due to the difference in the completion speed of mainline missions. These inconsistencies would likely consume a significant amount of resources, malting the game difficult to maintain, and eventually had to be changed to fix the time flow speed between the real world and the game world.

As for the other changes, they served to enrich the game content. Song Jian believed that this wasn’t the last update, and more content would be added in the future.

“What is the ultimate purpose of this game? To create gods?” Song Jian furrowed his brow, gazing at the starry-space-like settlement area beneath his feet while speculating silently.
